$15.99 for the App and hosting is not included
No free option. You have to pay to download the app, which is currently $15.99, but the price has been known to change. There's nothing to pay HTML Egg after the installation, however, there is no hosting included, so you may have to purchase hosting somewhere, and also your domain. HTML Egg recommends a few web hosts, including some free ones. See our conclusion for whether we think the price is worth it.
WYSIWYG maybe, but that's where the intuitiveness of HTML Egg ends
You get the impression from the start of an app with great possibilities, but soon realize that you don't know how to do anything, and playing around with the app doesn't produce too many answers. I understood what the help and info buttons would do but precious little else, and found myself constantly referring to the help files, video guides and faq to find out how to do things.
I was impressed by the capabilities of this app, but unfortunately it offers too many choices, many of which will be confusing for all but professional web designers.
I was impressed by the potential of the capabilities offered by this app, but unfortunately it offers too many choices, many of which will be confusing for all but professional web designers. Multiple options are presented at almost all times, and often what's presented has nothing to do with what you are attempting to do. For example, if you insert an image, with the image still selected you can click on the brush icon and bring up the font size, text box styling options, which don't do anything at all to an image.
It would be better if more guidance had been built into the creation process, and better still if things were more intuitive, but I did nevertheless appreciate the effort that has been put into the help sections, FAQ and video guides.
Major usability issues and the app crashed on me several times
It's hard to know whether to label some of the finding bugs, lack of maturity, or poorly though out elements of the design.
It's hard to know whether to label some of the finding bugs, lack of maturity, or poorly though out elements of the design. For example, items can be locked to prevent them from being moved, but locking an item doesn't prevent you moving its borders, which can have exactly the same effect as moving it, and is just as easy to do accidentally. In general more things happened accidentally during my attempt at making a test website, than things which I intended to happen. I make websites for a living, and so this is actually how it goes generally when writing code, but for a website builder that wishes to include non professional users, it's a serious flaw. I also incurred several crashes of the app. It didn't freeze, but shut itself down and had to be restarted.
Thorough support, help files and video guides, and they're needed
The help section in the app, and the FAQ of HTML egg's website is extensive but I couldn't find help on every issue, for example on slideshows. There is always help available, but not always instantly visible, and you usually need to tap on a help icon. I think some guiding suggestions at apt moments would have really helped with usability.
Email support is offered and the approach of HTML Egg feels friendly and helpful.
Very flexible design options and an almost endless feature set
HTML Egg is easily the most capable of the website builder apps for iPad in terms of raw possibilities for content creation and layout.
The websites that you can build are essentially unlimited in size as this depends mainly on the hosting solution you use. However, it would certainly be awkward to work on large websites using HTML Egg, or in fact any tablet or mobile based website builder app.

Using the drag and drop interface you can align text areas and images in any way you can imagine, and text and images can also be layered in various ways. It's a very flexible platform for those who are prepared to overcome the steep learning curve.
The one area which has fewer features than the other site builder apps is image editing. HTML Egg doesn't provide cropping or other editing of images, only resizing. However, some interesting possibilities are offered by the layering options and using text boxes to conceal parts of images. And of course you can always crop images in another app.
Text editing and layout is fantastic. There's a superb choice of fonts and text styling options. The drag and drop text boxes allow for infinite choice of alignment, column and other layout options. Several of these features are either not offered at all, or are offered much more modestly by other apps.
The full list of functions and features is quite impressive and includes Youtube videos, fillable forms, Google Maps integration, importing of data from external sources such as Dropbox, membership options and password restricted pages, Google Analytics, Paypal payment and Ecwid shopping cart integration, mailing lists, Google Calendar integration, Facebook and Twitter integration, embedding of various document types including PDF and Powerpoint, site backup to Dropbox or iTunes and so on. The use of iframes and html snippets makes the list of features vast.
Nice templates and they're customizable
HTML Egg allows you to start either with a blank page, or with one of a good selection of pre-designed templates. Great personalization options, including header images, logo, background patterns and images, page width and other options are available. You name it, almost. You can also add a favicon, although this is done mostly at your hosting account, not from inside of HTML Egg.
Duplicate pages to add additional languages
Multiple languages are not presented as an option, and you would have to do it manually, but it would be fairly easy to implement. Assuming you've already finished a site in your first choice language you can easily duplicate existing pages for translation.
Comprehensive Search Engine Optimization possibilities and plenty of guidance in the faq and help section.
SEO features are very good and include the ability to add site descriptions and title tags, any of the h1, h2 etc. tags, and meta keywords. These data can also be individually added to the different pages. A fair amount of guidance and help is offered on this issue in the help section and in the FAQ.
And HTML Egg also offer to promote your site for you by tweeting your url to their Twitter followers
Set your site layout to any width
Sites cannot be made responsive, but you can set your site width to anything you like. It would also be possible to build a separate mobile version of your site using HTML egg if you wished.
Works on multiple devices, but not easy to switch between them
HTML Egg is available for iPad, iPhone and Android. You can install an instance of the app on both iPad and iPhone if you have them, and pay only once, providing you use the same iTunes account. You would have to pay a second time to get the Android App, and some effort is required to move your site between the different devices. There is no web based client currently.

Conclusions
This app boasts more design possibilities, features and functions than the other web builders, but it's also by far the most complicated and difficult to use.
I think some people will love HTML Egg, and some people will hate it, but there won't be too many in the middle. This app boasts more design possibilities, features and functions than the other web builders, but it's also by far the most complicated and difficult to use.
If you're patient, and especially if you already have some technical knowledge, you will find great creative possibilities. But, I wonder how many people could want to spend that much time creating a website on a mobile device. Many users are likely to give up as they experience confusion, errors and fatigue. Giving up wouldn't be so bad with a free App, people are prepared to spend time testing productivity tools, but having paid $15.99 it would be a bit painful.

I gave it a 4/5 because of the learning curve. Also because they aren't clear on how to do things in some instances. For instance, if you're not using text in a shape, text box, or image; the text color sets the border color.
I love this app and since this review was put up their is now an html egg app for mac as well and it can be synchronized between iOS and Mac thanks to dropbox synchronization. While I wish there were features like drag and drop for mp4 video and gif animations I don't mind having to learn some coding to achieve this purpose (w3cschool.com). The fact that I am no longer tied to my desktop was a great selling point for me and the fact that I paid 4.99 for the iOS app and 25$ for the mac app was also great. Because the app just came out for Mac I paid the normal feel however there will most likely be a time where that price will be cut in half either way I am happy. There are tons of tutorials on how to use this app and perform different functions. As for me I am a very satisfied customer and highly recommend this app
Of all the iPad apps and web-based blogging programmes that I researched prior to using HTML Egg, none went close to this programme in enabling me to create and fully control visually rich pages for my blog - all on an iPad working offline - the perfect travel companion. Previously to achieve this level of control of content, I have had to lug my macAir - now at a fraction of the size and weight, I can do it all with the iPad mini and HTML Egg and leave the laptop behind. Not the easiest of programmes to master and the odd memory glitch, hence the 4 stars but a great solution for me nonetheless.
Wow. what an ambitious App. I have paid the 15 $ just to try something rich & complex, ... that I will never use. If it is to get back to code and FTP uploads, I rather use my desktop machine and real tools. I believe this App is a great demonstration of the developer’s abilities, but in no way a solution to create a site. Sorry.
